  4. Minor in Entrepreneurship

The minor is designed to serve business and non-business students across the campus, connect the business communities, and bring real-world challenges to the students via experiential/service-learning activities. It is an 18-credit academic minor program with foundational courses, action connector courses, internships, and venture finance capstone courses. Personalized course options within the minor can be created with a wide array of entrepreneurial orientations.

The minor was created through the (EI) project. Supported by CTNext, the Entrepreneurship Initiative project is a collaboration between the University of Connecticut (UConn) and 海角社区 (SCSU), aimed at building an inter-institutional ecosystem to support Connecticut student entrepreneurs through the development of student growth and innovation.

The Entrepreneurship Initiative program in the School of Business also offers organized, enriched extracurricular programs, such as an entrepreneurship speaker series, a business plan pitch competition (coming soon), and an inter-institutional student entrepreneur mentoring series.

Careers

An undergraduate minor in entrepreneurship equips students with the skills to launch and manage new ventures or drive innovation within existing organizations. The minor also prepares students for roles in marketing, sales, operations, and product development, especially in fast-growing companies or entrepreneurial environments. It鈥檚 a strong complement to majors in business, engineering, the arts, or technology. Students gain experience in opportunity recognition, strategic planning, and resource management, making them valuable in both self-employment and corporate settings that value creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving.

Typical Job Titles

  • Startup founder
  • Small business manager
  • Business development associate
  • Innovation consultant

Entrepreneurship Internship Opportunities

The 海角社区 School of Business is committed to connecting students to the local business community. We know the power of quality internships in driving future success, and we know our students make great interns in corporations, nonprofits, and emerging businesses. We are proud to offer a three-credit internship course, BUS497, which allows students to receive credit for time worked in business-focused internships. Through our Business Success Center, our dedicated Internship Coordinator, Patty Conte, connects students with organizations. The host organization provides an internship advisor, and the School of Business provides a faculty advisor. These advisors communicate with each other and with the student to ensure the work is completed to the satisfaction of the host organization and to ensure the student receives a strong learning experience.
